Project Overview

This project, a collaboration between the University of Washington’s Master of Technology Innovation program and Microsoft, focuses on designing a community microgrid powered by solar energy. The goal is to support energy equity and resilience through an innovative dashboard that uses data to drive sustainable energy solutions. My role includes creating the visual identity for the project, ensuring it resonates with the project’s goals and vision.

Design Challenge

The design challenge centered around developing a cohesive visual identity for a six-month project, including the team logo, font, and color palette. This identity needed to reflect the project’s research-focused, collaborative nature while aligning with the themes of technology innovation, sustainability, and cultural depth. The elements also had to remain versatile and consistent across all project materials, from presentations to reports, making them essential to communicating the project’s purpose and impact.

Logo Design

The logo combines elements of technology and cultural heritage. The font style reflects the innovative nature of the project, while the “O” is inspired by the Chinese oracle bone script for “sun.” This design choice symbolizes our focus on solar energy while subtly connecting to a shared cultural background, bridging tradition and modernity in a meaningful way.

Slide Cover Design

The slide covers are crafted to support a professional, research-oriented presentation style. They visually align with the collaborative nature of the project, incorporating elements from both the University of Washington and Microsoft’s branding, and are used to present findings and insights on community resilience and energy equity. Each slide cover reinforces the project’s commitment to sustainable energy innovation.
